The Kickers Legends set the tone for the day by crashing out of the O-30 League Cup to the Celtic Legends, one division level and 9 years behind in years. Kickers were well in the game until the 15th minute when a free kick was deflected into the goal. Celtics got a second from a rocket of a strike. Kickers pressured to come back and Joe Whiteman had the Celtic goal at his mercy after rounding the keeper but put it over instead. Still in the game at 2-0, the high press game was well countered by the Celtics who scored 4 more to allow Kickers Legends to focus instead on their League Championship ambitions.
The Kickers Over-30 Premier also crashed out of the League Cup with a 6-nil thumping by the NY Shamrocks. The game was competitive until the 15th minute when the Kickers went a man down on a straight red card (for retaliation). 2-nil at half-time (one a PK), the Kickers still had a chance. But in 48th minute, the Shamrocks broke down the Kickers midfield, then the defense and slotted one past Fitzgerald for the 3-nil lead and the Rocks never looked back.
The Manhattan Kickers reserves—still alive in the State Cup—tied a hard-fought game 3-3 and were eliminated in disappointed fashion on penalty kicks.
