4/16/2016 Game Recaps

First Team

The Kickers first team beat CPR Reds 6-4 at Randall's Island on Saturday night to earn three points back in league play. Hayden Morris scored the opening goal on a breakaway, PJ Taghani netted a penalty kick, Mike Morozuk scored on a free kick, and Brian Morris scored a hat trick—having terrorized the back line of an organized, but lackluster opponent for 90 minutes. The Kickers held 5-1 and 6-2 leads, but CPR Reds would score two goals in the final few minutes to keep the respectable scoreline.

Second Team

It was a gritty game for a light Kicker reserve squad as they battled to a 1-1 draw against CPR. After going a goal and a man down due to a heated exchange that lead to a red card, the Kickers dug in defensively and got a goal back thanks to a free kick from Jared. CPR controlled much of the possession in the second half thanks to the man advantage but the defense of the Kickers stood firm and repelled attacks, but it wasn't always pretty with a few clearances off the goal line. The Kickers did have chances on the counter but ultimately picked up a solid point that seemed unlikely after the early red card.
